+++ Info +++

Daniela de Paulis is a media artist, licensed radio operator (IU0IDY) and trained radio telescope operator. Since October 2009 she has been artist in residence at the Dwingeloo radio telescope in The Netherlands. Since 2010 she has been collaborating with a number of international organisations, including Astronomers Without Borders, for which she is the founder and director of the Arts programme. She is member of the permanent international SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) committee, the only worldwide forum for SETI scientists, and member of the METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence) advisory panel. She is a regular contributor for the Wow! Signal Podcast. She has published her work with the Leonardo MIT Journal, Inderscience, Cambridge University Press and RIXC amongst others.

‘COGITO in Space’ (2013-2019) is an interdisciplinary art project speculating on the creative and philosophical possibilities of exploring the cosmos by means of radio waves. The project allows participants to send their brain activity into space, as a symbolic action for shifting awareness from an Earth-centered perspective to a cosmos-wide perspective. ‘COGITO in Space’ has been developed in collaboration with Frank White, author of The Overview Effect: Space Exploration and Human Evolution, a pivotal book that explores the shift in worldview experienced by astronauts when they see the Earth from space and in space.

'COGITO in Space' is an interdisciplinary, collaborative project and the result of six years research at the Dwingeloo radio telescope and ASTRON (The Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy). The project has been partly developed as a reflection upon the use of the electromagnetic spectrum, and especially radio waves, by radio astronomers for gathering data of cosmic phenomena and upon the type of knowledge, we gain from the discovery of such remote events that cannot be known through direct sensory experience.

The Moon Gallery intends to send 100 artifacts to the Moon on a lunar lander exterior panelling as early as 2022. At Ventura Future a crew of 16 visionaries will show how the challenges along the journey of human space exploration instigate new forms of art, design and craft. Moon Gallery is an international collaborative artwork and a gallery of ideas worth sending to the Moon. SPARTHabitat founder and media artist Thomas Heidtmann is one of the selected artists for the project.
